Bukan Seorang

Filed under: Lessons on Love — Sabri @ 10:01 am

Cinta Yang Pernah Hadir

Cinta Yang Pernah Hadir

3. Dia banyak menasihati kekasihnya kerana dia amat menyayangi kekasihnya.

4. Dia berusaha mengongkong kebebasan kekasihnya kerana perasaan cemburunya yang meluap-luap.

5. Dia sentiasa takut kehilangan kekasihnya.

6. Dia sentiasa mengawasi pergerakan kekasihnya kerana dia sentiasa berasa curiga.

11. Dia pandai merajuk hati kerana ingin dipujuk oleh kekasihnya.

12. Dia akan mengelabah apabila kekasihnya berjauhan daripadanya terlalu lama.

13. Dia sentiasa mempastikan keselamatan kekasihnya.

14. Dia mementingkan kekasihnya daripada dirinya sendiri.

15. Dia kerap bertanya adakah kekasihnya mencintainya kerana dia merasa kasihnya lebih kuat daripada kekasihnya.

Baca perenggan terakhir. 100% true.

Rupa-rupanya bukan sekadar seorang lelaki menjadi mangsa.

Fikir-fikirkan.

Never Do Something With Your Hand Tied

Filed under: Life Skills — Sabri @ 3:52 am

This is a lesson I learned when I am in form 5. I was SEMASHUR’s first chief editor. That was one of my dreams in school. I don’t know you, but I see the editorial board as some of the coolest people in the school. They have personality. However, unlike SABS (where I study in form 1 to 3), SEMASHUR being a new school, we have to start from zero.

In April, I get my team. A lot can be said here, but that’s for another time. Just as a summary, the team is less than ideal, however I take full responsibility for chaos that happened. I think I am a weak leader at that time. Even with a less than ideal team, if I am more assertive and proactive I think the situation can be better. How I wish I know what I know now at that time.

This is what I will do different:

At that time, I don’t just get a team. The members’ were already assigned their respective position by our advisor. I notice that some of the member’s are not assigned for what they did best. (Eg: A student with designing talent not assigned as designer but for other position, etc). And I have this stupid limiting belief, I strive to do the best with what is given to me and our advisor who assign the position know best. Which is not the case, he later told me he just randomly fill the position in (when I asked him whether I can reshuffle the portfolion when it is a little bit too late). He agreed to my proposal instantly at that time.

How I wish I did it sooner.

So a lesson learned, never assume you have to do something the way it is given to you. Always ask, always try to do something your way if possible and if you are confident your way is a better way.

Don’t afraid to deviate. Don’t afraid to try new things if you follow the correct procedure. Don’t afraid to innovate.

Be it in your life, be it in your career.

Innovate,

Sabri

Balik Raya

Filed under: Adventures — Sabri @ 4:13 am

Tonight I am driving back to my home town.

This Raya is in a way quite different from my previous Raya. People close to me might know why. I am in no mood to elaborate here, but I believe avid readers of this blog will understand why. It is almost a year and the pain is still very much there.

However reflecting on what I have went through this one year, I could not but be grateful. I am closer to my family, I get to travel to foreign places, I live life at 100%, I enjoy giving more, I learn new stuff and underwent new experience, even in business I fill my time with something more exciting and challenging but still enjoyable.

I did not purposely try to be busy 100% of the time, but I am grateful I am busy. It take my focus away from the painful things and keep me positively occupied with something more beneficial.

This Raya also will be my first time giving out Ang Pow packets. 🙂

But kids, hehe… Don’t expect much. I don’t believe in giving money easily to people, especially if they don’t prove they deserve it, however it is still a good tradition to have, so I will still do it. Sabriza is getting the most expensive Ang Pow of all from me, an Ivory White Dell laptop after Ummairah step into her old one and broke it.

To avoid Ummairah getting into trouble (as she sat for UPSR this year), Sabriza and me decided that we will cover up for her and just tell our parents that she want a new laptop and I decided to buy her one. (Now, lucky Ummairah she had me as her brother right?)

Ummar is getting a Risk board game while Ummairah is getting a Monopoly SpongeBob theme board game.

Tomorrow I plan to bring my siblings to start our Basket drive and also maybe to Popular. For kids below 12 I think it is acceptable to give RM 2 ang pow while for cousins who are elder I am thinking of giving them book. A specific title actually. I think that’s all from me.

Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir Batin to everyone except H! 🙂

A Trip to Guangzhou

Filed under: Adventures — Sabri @ 12:24 pm

I can feel that my level of English was deteriorating even though I am using it daily. I don’t know why.

This part of the post is written on the plane to Guangzhou.

I am grateful for being blessed with an eventful life surrounded with competent friends. I thought this Ramadhan will be an uneventful one. Boy, how wrong I am.

It starts with a trip to Sarawak, 5 days in Singapore and a few hours from now my plane will land in Guangzhou. As recent as a year ago, I dreamt of  living a jetsetter life and suddenly I am living my dream life. Having said that, although I like to travel to new places, but I wish in the future it will be less intense.

One of my goal now is to do a spontaneous trip with my wife when I have one. Just go to the airport and take the first flight that is available. But that might take a few more years though.

The spontaneous part is easy, to find the right one to accompany me is the hardest part.

Part below was written on the plane back from Guangzhou.

Overall, I had a successful trip. Here are a compilation of my report on different subjects:

People

I met the most interesting girl in my life so far in Guangzhou. And that is an understatement. I have met and had an opportunity to work with quite a number of interesting girls in my life who not only excel in the look department but also have a brain to match it. And I deeply respect and admire them for their perfect package and lovely & positive attitude.

However this simple girl whom I first met a few days ago manage to break through the glass ceiling in my head and raise my expectation about girls.

When I saw her picture, I thought she is just another university kid. Maybe a first year student who become a freelance translator to earn some pocket money.

However after 4 days working with her, she has exceeded even my most ambitious expectation.

For people in my age group, I consider myself quite knowledgeable for a young man. I consider F as having the same trait too. During the course of my life, I find that like minded people are few and far between. Girls, I don’t even remember any that left a lasting impression.

But Y shows me that being a women does not limit you in what you can learn, what you can know and what you can do. I can say that she is very knowledgeable and in some part she knows better than me and F are.

For example, seeing her bargain on behalf of us is classic. She never cease to impress me with price that she is able to get for us, it is always better than what we can get if I bargained myself. And if you think she is lucky because item in China is cheap, you are wrong.

You need to see her disgusted look and the helpless look on the other side face when she daringly walked out of the door because she did not get the price that she want (and of course the shopkeeper relent finally). If it happened once, that is luck. But I see her do it over and over again. Plus, she understand how business works, what is the mentality of businesses in China and she perfectly apply these knowledge to her advantage.

She also shares a few of her wisdom with me. I know that her assessment is true because some of it I already heard from a much older and successful guy. So she definitely know her stuff.

Imagine a 22 years old, with a girl next door look, independent and full of initiatives, know a lot about business, import & export, shipping and sourcing, speak & understand English (and learning from tape that’s it) when 99% of people around her does not know squat, you knew she has the x factor in her. Oh and did I mention that she will be graduating magna cum laude?

And when she told me I am the fourth or fifth person to say that she will be very successful if she is in my country, I know I am not the only one who spot this rare talent.

Food

In contrary to what a lot of people believe, finding a Muslim restaurant in Guangzhou was not that hard. Suffice to say, we eat at different restaurants every day.

However, when people says that we have good food in Malaysia, now I have understand why. Even a real Chinese food lose compared to Chinese food available in Malaysia. Even the fact that they use fresher materials such as hand made noodles (which is very tasty) could not help them beat our food.

Another interesting observation, Chinese did not have drinks during meal. When you enter a restaurant they will give you a food menu but drinks was not listed. Some restaurant might served you with a sip of green tea, some might have bottled drinks upon request, but there are restaurant that offer none.

Objectives

I have one primary objective and one lofty objective set for these trip. We got both and more. Thanks for our teams’ resilience, I know we will fly higher after this.

Similarities & Differences

Timezone in Guangzhou is the same with timezone in Malaysia. However it is more similar to Borneo I must say. It is already dark at 6.

I have been to Singapore, Indonesia & Cambodia before. In rare moment of self reflection, you feel that these countries are not dissimilar to Malaysia. In case like Cambodia, although it is less developed, I fee like my hometown 20 years ago. However in Guangzhou, you know you are in a foreign country. Especially at night when the neon lamps lit the night like what you see in those Japanese and Korean movie.

On the Friday night, we went on Pearl River cruise to celebrate the deal we successfully made during the day (VIP ticket no less!). The city looks better at night. And we have an awesome brain exchange with our translator who decided upon our suggestion to change her name to Michelle Yu.

Lesson Learnt

Chinese in China will sell to you at any price as long as they make a little profit.

I Walked on Fire in Singapore Tonight

Filed under: Adventures — Sabri @ 9:10 am

I am attending Tony Robbins Unleash the Passion Within Seminar this weekend. And tonight I walked on fire!

The fire symbolize our limiting belief and thing that we thought as impossible. Once you become a firewalker that manage to accomplish something other people think as impossible, what you can do become limitless. It just either you talk yourself in or you talk yourself out of it.

The firewalking experience itself was awesome, I did it twice! No thanks to review from ‘average my life sucks!’ people.

They said that wood (coal) is a weak conductor and you can walk on fire safely even if you do it yourself at your backyard.

What a load of bollocks and even worse, I trust them! I am ashamed of myself.

Those people for sure never do what they said as easy. First, the heat was real and untolerably hot! It’s anything but safe. Even done under supervision, there are people who got burn. Majority have small blisters after walking on the fire.

So the first time I ass-ume it is safe and I did not properly get into my peak state. As a result I felt the heat and of course it hurts!

I am not satisfied, so I do it again. The second time I put myself in the peak state and this time I did not feel the heat anymore

There are a lot that I can share with you what I learned from this seminar. But I will share with you gradually.

For now, I will just share with you that I will start my own “basket” drive. Initially with 3 families whom I will asked my siblings to choose, it is good timing Raya is coming. I was inspired by Tony to start this one.

Plus, I am also starting a no red meat diet program. For every 30 days I will only eat red meat for 2 days. This will be my first step to have a healthier diet and to increase my vegetable intake.

That’s all for now, will report back in near future. 🙂
